Stumbleupon Secrets

Stumbleupon has grown immensely popular because of its ability to bring in huge amounts of traffic with the click of a button. It seems dead simple -- install the toolbar, give yourself the olds thumbs up, and they come-a-runnin.

The thing is, no one really knows what formulas are in play that get you a few thousand visitors versus a few hundred. I thought I was doing well getting a few hundred visitors a day from Stumbleupon until I saw Caroline Middlebrook's stats. She gets tens of thousands. Yeah, it made me sit up and take notice too.

Like most people I was amazed at the amount of traffic Stumbleupon could bring in. So I happily thumbed-up many of my sites on a daily basis. Over time, I noticed my traffic from Stumbleupon dwindled even though I was getting more thumbs up.

When I saw Caroline's course Stumble Rush I decided to signup. The first 10 lessons are free so there's nothing to lose. The course takes a deep look at Stumbleupon and shows you what to do, what not to do, and how to analyze your Stumbleupon traffic, as well as some Stumbleupon secrets I would have never figured out on my own.

I don't want to give the whole course away, but during one lesson you'll learn how to use Google Analytics to optimize your site for Stumbleupon visitors. This was a real eye opener for me because I thought my sites were already optimized as much as possible.

Some of the highlights are--

  • What StumbleUpon Users Don't Like
  • What Content Gets Stumbled
  • Which Votes Count
  • Pimping Your Profile
  • How to Ask For Sumbles
  • Monetizing Stumbleupon Traffic

Caroline also provides a direct link to the .mov file so that people can download the videos to their computer and watch them offline rather than wait for them to stream -- a feature I really appreciate.

Each lesson -- the first ten of which are free -- has an accompanying video. I can definitely say the course is worth it if you want to use Stumbleupon effectively. If not, just keep giving yourself the old thumbs up and wonder why your traffic is dwindling.
